Doesn't it take place in some fictional city of magic and dreams?

Yeah but like Gotham City, I always thought it was implied it was in the U.S.

Probably for diversity for all region. I think the Neon made it's way over to the European version though I don't think it was sold over there.

That's a good question...I never thought about that much.

Was the Alfa Romeo that you could choose at the beginning (can't remember the model off hand) ever sold in the states?

Pretty sure it's a 106.

At any rate, it's for pimpin'. When NFSU came out, "Chav" culture was in its prime, so being able to rice the hell out of a small Peugeot was perfect. In many ways the Underground games were completely of their time like that.

We got the Chrysler Neon for a few years. It was terrible. I haven't seen one for absolutely ages. You only bought it if you'd failed at life.

The neon was sold here. At least on the mainland. Even a neon cup racing series in Scandinavia.

Did other countries get anything like the ACR or the later SRT-4s? Since those were pretty great cars.

No, the 106 was in the european release, but the 206 was in both USA and Europe release.

Good point

Well, I guess the Skyline is desirable and the 206 is a euro shitbox?

Yeah, but the Clio in MW was the highly desirable Clio V6. One of the greatest hot hatches of all time.

The Civic is/was the primary car to rice in North America at the time. Small Peugeots (and VWs) held that ground in Europe (and still pretty much do). That would be why.

Nope. I think because it was sold as a Chrysler and not a Dodge, we didn't get those versions AFAIK.

That's a shame, since if any Neons could have won the Europeans over, it was those. The first generation Neon ACR was designed to be an autocross monster right out of the box, and it was, and the SRT-4 was WRX fast, in a straight line and around the corners.
